Frequently Asked Questions

  • Do I need a referral?

Yes. A referral is required for us to perform diagnostic tests and for you to see a cardiologist for consultation. The referral provides us with important information regarding your medical history as well as the reason for you needing an appointment with us. The referral can be in the form of a letter from your GP or another specialist. One of our practice referrals can be used.

Further, Medicare requires that a current referral is provided in order for you to receive the full rebate.

  • How long will my referral last?

A referral from your GP will be valid for 12 months. A referral from another specialist will be valid for 3 months from the date of your first visit. If you are having a diagnostic test, the referral will be valid for that particular test only. If you have any further queries in relation to referrals, please speak with our friendly reception team.

  • What should I wear to my test appointment?

You should wear comfortable clothing (preferably two pieces) and footwear. For information relating to your specific test, please see the Test Preparation Guide or our Forms & Fact Sheets page.

  • Do I still take my medication?

You should take all medication as prescribed unless advised otherwise by your doctor. Please ensure that you bring a list of your medications and their dosages with you.

  • Do I need to fast before my test?

Some tests do require fasting. Fasting requirements for each test can be found on our Quick Prep Guide or our Services page

  • How much will it cost?

The cost will depend on the type of consultation or test you are having. Our reception team will advise you on the fees and any Medicare rebate applicable when making your booking. If you are a DVA Gold Card holder, all fees will be covered by the Department of Veterans’ Affairs. For more information, please see our Fees and Payments section on our Appointments page.

  • How long will my appointment take?

The length of your appointment will depend on why you are visiting us. Initial consultation appointments run for 30 minutes while follow-up consultations are 15 minutes. Details of appointment times for diagnostic testing can be found on the Test Preparation Guide or our Forms & Fact Sheets page.

  • When will I receive my test results?

The results of your test will be sent to your referring doctor usually within 24 to 48 hours. If you will be seeing your doctor within 24 hours of the test being performed, please advise the receptionist and the technician performing your test.
